Endless Possibilites for New Players

Published by Jessica at 11:02 am under E-mail Newsletter,News, black market items

Each day I come back from the barn, my little brother always asks me about it, so I decided to help him create a Howrse account.

New Mascot!

As soon as he created an account, the tutorial popped up. This takes you on 26 or more quests, showing you your way around Howrse. You learn different things like aging, feeding, and performing daily activities with your Howrse. It takes you a bit around the site, but only to the Black Market, your page, the competitions page, and the store. I was a bit shocked it didn’t really mention anything about the Forums. It did provide a nice introduction though for new players.

New players receive many items throughout this tutorial as well – they get over 3,000e, tack, BM items like P. Stone, Eolus’ Wind, and a Chronos Timer, and plenty of aging points and turnips. One thing I noticed when my brother had to apply the Eolus’ Wind is that that was the only item he had to apply; the C. Timer and P. Stone were already added to the horse. I’m very happy that Howrse did that so players won’t just make an account to receive more BM items. There are also some new BM items that many of you have heard about but never seen. Theses kind of take the place for achievements for young players since they give them a kick start. These two pass items include:

  • Gaia Foal – an object to give you a second horse of your choice
  • New Howrsian Pack - a pack that includes aging points, turnips, mashes, etc. and the chance to create an affix
  • Business Key – access to private sales and auctions, creating an EC, and you don’t need to pass riding levels**

**Based on this and how the achievements are disappearing, I’m guessing that maybe Howrse will take the riding levels away too? Leave your opinion in the comments below.

Of course, my brother only went on for 30 minutes to get around the site. After he completed the tutorial, he decided to log off and ignore it. That’s pretty much expected from him; Howrse did do a good job trying to lure him in though!

Below are some of the quests that you go on, if you would like to see: (Click each image to enlarge it. The last one shows how the tutorial continues even when visiting different pages)

it sounds cool for brand new players and im glad they get an opportunity to get some black market items. however, i still think not having the achievements is going to have a negative impact on the number of players sticking with howrse. for those of us who arent brand new but still arent seasoned players, we still dont have any other great alternative for winning free black market items. without the achievements, we are forced to either trade for them, buy them from people for e, or buy passes. either way, howrse still needs something to replace the achievements that also offers these free rewards. thats my opinion anyway :)

I agree with you 100%. The only reason I was able to get so many BM items was because of Xanthos and Horn of Plenties. Once they made it only the five-stroke-a-day thing, I figured I could get some with achievements. Now that’s going and I’m starting to think the Riding Levels will too…

I’m sure it’ll all work out! And I never ever knew about the Xanthos until I found this site:)

I decided to find out where all these foundations are coming from. Apparently, from “Gaia Foal”. If this keeps up, I wonder if they’ll flood the market so much that foundy prices will drop?

I used to be a very active player on howrse, and they NEVER had any tutorials or anything. But I made a new account because of account deletion, and when I saw the little monkey pop up, it was totally surprising. *It actually helped a bit too!* I am very much hoping that they do NOT take away riding levels, or else the whole “educational part” is completely lost :(

They never announced they were taking away the riding levels – I was just guessing. ;)

i just noticed today that the acheivements were gone and i was like oh man! because i was going around trying to trade with someone to get a fertility wand to complete an acheivement! i got one, but now it seems pointless that i got one. now i feel empty with nothing to do on howrse, because we dont have anything to work towards and be rewarded for (the acheivements!) im really sad and annoyed they took them away. i really enjoyed doing them. they better replace them or i will probably quit howrse due to how boring it has become. what do you think Jessica?

I kinda can’t quit Howrse since I’ve got this website. xD But I know what you mean – I just finished Level 8 but I needed one more update for it to validate but couldn’t. I think that since I almost completed it, I don’t feel that bad with them not here anymore. I think Howrse made a bad move taking this away as it really helped new players. I don’t know if they will replace it, but I hope they do. Lately on Howrse I’ve only been making layouts. I haven’t even had time to train my horses!

Hi! I wanted to use the Gaia Foal to produce a new foal, but it isn’t showing up! I’m 33 days old, is there a limit??
