Many Changes to Howrse – Too Many!

Published by at 4:06 pm under News

First off, happy Fourth of July (Independence Day) to those in America!

Howrse changed many things today, including foal games and how it affects your foal. I’ll be busy throughout today and spending time with family, but I’m hoping to post all the changes and information tonight.

New features starting today:

  • For users with pegasus accounts, you can sell multiple horses at once (found in the same place where you can move mass horses to breeding farms)
  • Another pegasus account bonus: click on  the icon above the horse’s skills box to view detailed statistics
  • Companions will be removed (details below)

  • Creation Space: you can vote for new coats from the 10th to the 16th of each month and report a coat for being in the wrong category
  • Hestia’s Gift can be given on the covering page given you have one in your inventory and you are breeding your mare to a unicorn of the same breed
  • Non-compatible coats with Helio’s Ray (the background BM item) have a new icon:
  • Horses that are put to bed for the night have a new icon: (instead of the z’s)
  • Visually impaired players can now change a horse’s profile or manage meadows (something that couldn’t be done before)

Removal of the Companions: Starting July 16th

Companions will be removed from the game as Howrse believes it has become too complicated to get the full genetic game and is a less popular feature of the game. If a horse already has a companion, it will stay with that horse and the skill bonus when the companion wakes up, which will be done through the first action with your horse, will remain effective; the bonuses will stay with the horse. The companions that are in your inventory will either be removed (only Monkey, Bee, Ladybug, Camel, Kangaroo, Bear and Penguin) and you will be reimbursed with 500 equus each or the others that stay can be used in the next contest.

Before explaining the contest, keep some important points in mind:

  • Only the companions in your inventory will be used for the contest
  • Put some companions on your horse – they will be looked upon as a collector’s item and can increase in value in the future with new promotions
  • Once the contest starts you cannot put a companion on your horse – make sure you do so before July 15th!
  • Companions that are being sold in the store at this time will also be sold during the contest
  • There are other ways to get companions once the contest starts, listed below.
  • It’s your choice to create a collection to keep on your horses or to use some for the contest; I’m not sure what I’m going to do – I was thinking put the more valued companions (skill gain compared to equus or aging points) on my valued horses and leaving the ones with less value for the contest.
  • Divine companions in the item exchange, as UFOs on friends’ pages, and the ability to send one to a friend will all be canceled once the contest starts

The idea of the contest is similar to the Journey to the North Pole where reindeer were collected to send to the North Pole to bring back certain prizes after x amount of days. The companions will be sent off back to their habitat (Farm, Prairie, Forest, Savannah, Divine). Once they bring back a prize, they do not return to your inventory. The contest will end on August 2, meaning you can send off companions on that day, even if they won’t give you your prize until several days after the contest ends.

Details about the contest:

  • It is not possible to have more than 5 journeys at the same time
  • The amount of companions needed to get the same gift (i.e. the second time you are sending them) will triple every time the journey is completed, but the time will stay the same
  • The big prize is not available at the beginning of the contest
  • You’ll have to send your companions on a total of 25 journeys, even if they aren’t fully completed.
  • Noted again: Monkey, Bee, Ladybug, Camel, Kangaroo, Bear and Penguin will not be used in the contest; put them on your horses if you want to add them to your collection

How to Earn Companions: (during the contest)

  • The first time you log in each day
  • Finishing last in competitions (up to 4 per day)
  • Finishing first in competitions (up to 4 per day)
  • In the store (the same ones that are being sold now – no new ones; don’t purchase the monkey as it’s not used in the contest )
  • UFOs
  • Horns of Plenty (4 in each)
  • Companion Trades

Companions Trades:

Similar to the item exchanges, you can exchange your companions. Each day you get one free trade. The next exchange would cost 4,000e and will by multiplied by five for the next trade. (The third trade would cost 20,000e).

The maximum amount of companions you can offer to trade is 100 classical and 5 divine; you can search for up to 5 companions. If a player cancels an exchange proposal that was purchased on the same day the user will not receive their equus back, but will be given another free trade. Trades must be public; there’s no option for a private trade.

Once the contest is over, any companions left in your inventory will be removed and you will receive 100e each.

Use this time before the 16th to stock up on companions and put some on your horses if you want to save them for the future. I’ll try my best to answer any questions, but this is new to me as well. :)

Foal Games:

Once the companions are removed on July 16th, foal games will be different.

  • The button will be moved to the EC tab on your horses’ pages
  • Foal games are at 8 to 16 months instead of until 18 months
  • Rides begin at 18 months
  • Foal games will no longer give a genetic potential. You can earn up to 60 skill points instead.
  • The Chronos’ Timer will not double the amount of skills earned during the games
  • The HH foal game schedule will be changed – energy that was needed at 10 months is now used at 8 months and the energy needed at 12 months is now at 10 months. I may be able to just remove the original 8 month schedule and change the 10 month to the new 8 month
  • In order for the game to progress, there still needs to be a gain in genetic potential. The 1.2 gain will be given to the foal at birth automatically.

There are several adjustments that will be made to make the transition easier:

  1. Foals under the age of 20 months will automatically be given the 1.2 GP gain, as if they did the old foal games correctly.
  2. From July 16th and forward, foals born will automatically be given a 1.2 GP gain at birth.
  3. Foundation foals will not have a 1.2 GP gain (i.e. the first horse you receive)
  4. The 1.2 GP gain will not apply to donkeys as they lose genetic potential with each generation.

As I said before, THANKS! You’re the best.
I was so confused, knowing you wouldn’t scam, but also thinking the mods would be more careful. (No offense to any of the mods, I love them all, but you are my best friend on the game- and look how long you’ve been loyal. Why go all evil now?) This makes more sense than the other, much less possible, scenarios I came up with. I’ll email you later so we can chat about any ideas to help you out of this pickle. (I love pickles, I don’t get that ‘pickle’ as a bad thing…)
Thank you so much for making this site- I truthfully don’t come on much, but I am glad Megan thought to.
