FAQs
Howrse has so many different options and goals to complete, that it can get very confusing at time. Here is a space that answer frequently asked questions about game play. If you have a question that isn’t on this list, feel free to post it in the comments section.
Game Play:
1. How do I complete objective number ____?
Tips for completing objectives can be found on their respective page. Please read those tips/comments from others before posting a comment
2. What are Pass Horses?
Pass Horses are just regular horses. When any mortal horse dies of old age, you get a pass. Your horse needs to be at least over 30 years old and you need to send it to Heaven (not the safe haven) in order to receive your pass.
Donkeys will work as well – they don’t have to be just horses. ;)
3. I really need equus and I sold all of my inventory. Do I have to sell one of my horses?
No. Most people would say yes, but if you don’t take care of it that day, it won’t age. When it doesn’t age, it won’t need food. Take care of only one horse and easy ways to earn money is to just stroke a horse in the haven or stroke a divine or answer an Archimedes question. View the divine links on a separate page.
4. I just started my game. What’s the best way to take care of my horses?/Can you offer a training schedule?

Stick to the general training tips posted in the Tips section and train in your horse’s top three categories. There is no need to have a strict time schedule for each breed.
5. Can you personally make me a layout?
No, I do not have time to make custom layouts; please select a layout from the available ones on HH
6. How do I cancel an Auction Sale?
When you click on the auction sale, on the right there should be a button that sales “Cancel Sale”. You have to pay for this to happen and you can’t cancel it if someone is bidding on your horse. It would be best to make sure you really want to sell you horse before you put it up in the auctions.
7. Can an Xanthos be sold?
Yes, if the owner chooses to do so, they can. I have seen three in the auction so far. One sold for 3 million equus and the other sold for 2.2 million equus I think.
8. Can divines/specials breed?
Most are unable to breed, but Mist and Snow can breed to produce another divine named Ocean.
9. How do I create an affix or breeding farm?
Affix: Go to “My horses”, click “My Affixes” and then it should take you through the steps to complete it from there.
Breeding Farm: My Horses > Click the plus button on the right to add more
10. How do I make the presentation size larger?
On your profile page, near the top right corner of the presentation, it will have three little buttons. Click on the last one, “Options”, and edit the size that will appear for your presentation. The largest is 1,000 pixels for the length.
11. How do I change an affix?
If you bred the horse, you are able to change the affix. If you did not buy the horse, you won’t be able to change it.
Click on the horse’s name when you’re on the “My Horses” page. At the top, there will be two or three buttons, depending if you have a breeding farm or not. One will be the rename button; click that and select the affix from a drop-down list.
12. How do I make layouts / Where is HTML coding posted?
You will need to understand HTML coding in order to create layouts. I have training offered on this site (you can view it here or browse already made layouts here).
HTML coding is posted in the HTML mode. Go to your page and click on “Modify” then on the right there will be a green button that says, “HTML Mode”.
13. I can’t access Safe Haven, Sales, etc.
Make sure you have a high enough seniority/karma. You may not be able to see that part of Howrse or physically access it because of the seniority.
14. What are Xanthos/Divine Horses?

15. Are certain training schedules better than others?
Personally, I don’t follow any training schedules, other than foal games. Usually, it’s best to just train in short rides first and then go on to the actual training with the training bars. The important thing that you must have though is to put your horse in the meadow for either half an hour or one hour, depending on how much training you’re doing that day. You also must give your horse a salt stone before doing any training or activity. The salt stone gives the highest energy (around 2.5 to 2.8) when your horse has the most energy. Then train your horse in the best three skills. If Dressage is one of the top three, skip it. Since it requires less energy, you can train your horse towards the end of the day when it has 4 or 5% left to spare. Train your horse until it has the least amount of energy left you can use. (if it’s only 4%, don’t train in Dressage yet; your horse can still gain energy and complete a different skill) When you start to care for it to raise it’s energy, always stroke it first since it will give the most energy when your horse has the least. If you are running low on time, don’t give it water or an apple since they will have no affect on the horse’s morale the next day. Feed your horse and give it a turnip, depending on the amount of time left and how much energy your horse has left. (This is when you can train your horse in dressage if only a small amount of energy is needed.) First, check the amount of energy it is need to train in a category and how much time. If your horse already has enough energy and time, go for it. If it only needs a few more, try giving it a carrot. If not, you can feed it a turnip and train it. *Always make sure your horse will be put to bed with at least 20% energy*
Equestrian Centers:
1. I just started my center. How do I raise the prestige?
To raise it’s prestige, you must have enough meadows that are clean, employees, and competitions help too. By the next day, your prestige should rise to about 20 or 30%. However, my opinion when just starting an EC is to not buy any boxes or hire employees until you can get 100,000 equus for your EC. There is more info on this in the Tips section.
2. How come no one is boarding at my EC?
If you just made your EC, don’t worry about it. Most of the reasons are you don’t have carrots, your rate is too high, you have low prestige, you have no health care, or your meadows are dirty. Give it some time to fix these problems. For more help, visit the Tips page.
3. What should be posted in my EC forum?
It’s always best to post fun topics and things that interest you to attract more players. Some main things are “Rate the avatar above you”, Guestbooks, BM trades, contests, and more.
4. How do I rotate meadows?
First, you need to have one extra meadow that is fallow. If the meadow you have is dropping in fertility or cleanliness, put the meadow fallow. Then, take the extra meadow and put it in pasture. This way the prestige won’t drop for cleanliness or fertility.
5. I created a competition, but it doesn’t show up when I try to enter my horse, I can’t find the competition.
Make sure that the difficulty level is set right below your horse’s skills, that way the prestige will get higher. At the bottom of the competition page, there will be a search box for ECs. Search your EC’s name to find the competition. If it is still not listed, check the competition page to see if it is open for registrations. Also, make sure your horse has enough skills.
6. How do I put bedding in the stalls?
Go to the Boxes page and on the right, there should be a button that allows you to put the bedding it. It may not be shown that it’s there, but it will be there by the next update.

Sorry, I can’t really help you with that. If you know the user name, all you can do is select ‘Forgot my password’ and an e-mail will be sent to you with a new password. If you haven’t logged on for 90 days, your account will automatically be deleted. If you can’t remember your user name or password, you might have to make another account.
I forgot my password on howrse and I clicked the forogtten password button and put everything on need but my email is not getting the email with my new password. I don’t know what to do! Help please!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I can’t help with any forgotten passwords. Try to think if there is another e-mail account you used while signing up. Otherwise, you’ll have to make a new account. Sorry.
I have a mare, and I have completed her training, I have finished her riding, all her skills/genetics are bolded except for speed, but when I enter her into speed races[galloping races] her speed doesn’t budge, and only her energy lowers, how can I raise her speed and raise her BLUP enough to get it to 100. She is currently at 74.97. [As of January 6, 2010.]

How do you raise the price on your horse in the auctions?
I mean, I’ve seen horses with 17* that goes for only 650e, and then horses with 0* on which the price is over 4,000e. Is there something the vendor does, or is it just.. random?

In the auctions? Since players can bid on the horse, they might bid a high amount if they would really like it, or a small amount if they don’t want to spend to much. The owner of the horse in the auction can’t raise the price, but they can take it out of the auctions. Otherwise, it’s all up to the players.
If one of your howrses reach their genetic potnetiol, does anything special happen?
Nope. Just the pride of good training. :D Many horses, without BM items, can go over potential by a few points. However, my horse, with about 200+ IBS and a C. Timer went over by 220 and is still gaining.
I have a question.
Is it possible to breed with yourself? I have two starred Arabians that I want to breed. Is it possible that can have them breed together?

In the article, Bye-bye Howrse Quiz, Hello Archimedes, it says that players received them as a prize for contributing to the Howrse Quiz. I think the players had to submit 100 questions, or something like that. The only way you could get one is by purchasing one in the Auctions or Private Sales.

How long has it been since you last logged in? If it was for more than 90 days, you account will be deleted. Go through all your e-mail adresses and look to see if you got any messages from Howrse, concerning your log-in. That’s really all I could do to help you..
I didn’t go on howse for a really long time, and it won’t let me logon now. Did my account get deleted?
Do you know how long it has been? Accounts automatically get deleted within 90 days of inactivity. Keep your e-mail as well to see if you got any reminders.

Okay, i have many times my account has been stolen, used, and deleted. Ive used all my paswords i an find up, and i cant anymore find out any that i still could remeber. I was now lucky, since my account was just stolen, but it was sent an abusive message and i lost a karma. Now i have only one karma, and i have soo many messages gotten, but i cant get to my mailbox. I never save my password, but i stll cant avoid account stealing. How could i avoid those? My name is my username.
If you trust your family members won’t go on your account, put a post-it note with a random password near the computer. It could be something like “hfI9akfa9″. No one would be able to guess something like that. Even if you feel someone in your house would go on to your account, they probably won’t guess it’s a password for Howrse. If you don’t want to put it where everyone can see it, put it as a draft in your e-mail. You could always use letters that you will remember, if you link something to it. Remember to use capitals as well.
I can’t find the link you use to make an affix. Can you help me out? Where on the page am I suppose to look?

An Xanthos is a divine horse. They cannot breed and are immortal. You have the option to stroke five each day for the chance to win 1,000e and a HOP.

You need to win 20 competitions in first place and he must be 10 years or older.
You should be fine; Howrse usually doesn’t notice those things. If both accounts share the same e-mail, be careful. That’s one of the things they check. Try not to trade anything with your sister or buy any horses. They might find that suspicious as well.

how low does the health have to be for a horse to die?
and I have a horse boarded at an EC which provides health mashes.. how do I buy one? It doesn’t come up as an option when I feed my horse

yeah there are over 600 mashes and I bred the horse and he’s never had a mash of any kind =/

Howrse hasn’t been releasing any lately…They used to have them in magazines when the site just started. Sometimes players find some and post them on their page, so look around. ;) If there are any that are released, it’s usually just one every once in a while.
how do you get xanthos ?
They were only available in the card packs. Now the only way to get them, since the cards are sold out (sold out about a year ago and haven’t been replaced with new ones yet), you can now only get one from the auctions or private sales.
I’ve read on the forums that Harlequins are actually considered a “special” horse and not a “divine”. Do you know the names of all the divines currently available and all the “special” horses currently available? Is Archimedes a divine horse or a special horse? Thanks!

whats the point of riding level 10 if you don’t get anything or whatever ?
I guess just to finish it off…you also receive the ability to preform 3 lessons a day with your horse.
I just looked at your post above about being able to do 3 lessons a day when you pass riding level 10. That doesn’t work for any of my horses. Are you sure that is true? Thanks for the help
I know that I heard this before on the forums and I believe it had it on the riding levels page once I completed it, but I myself can’t do it either…I’ll check back again.
**Update** You had to be at Achievements Level 9 in order to get the third lesson. Since the achievements are ending, players who passed level 10 should automatically get the third lesson.

Do you an aging point everytime some1 answers your Archimedes’ question correctly? I mean you don’t want them for their skill, so there must be some benefit to owning them?

Good question -one main thing that I can think of is popularity. Players want aging points and this is an easy way for them to get them. If they got an aging point for each answer and got five answers a day, they would get a ton of aging points. They don’t really have any benefits.

Just take care of your horse like you normally would. After you put it to bed, you can age it without aging points by pressing the “Age” button.

There is no official forum on Howrse – you can only post on your page or in an EC forum.
Some questions I could’t find the answers to…
1.) Archimedes – How many questions can I answer a day? I tried the link to the right and it would only let me answer one question.
2.) I see notes in the auction that say- “Great for 0 or negative BLUP breeders” Why would you breed before the horse is at 100% BLUP? Is there any advantage to that?
3.) You talk about doing two lessons every day to improve the over all skills but you also reference doing that with WOY. Are the lessons only valuable to improve skills if you have a WOY?? I usually do two lessons per day once all the other training is complete. Should I be doing lessons before training is complete if I don’t have a WOY? And what the heck is a WOY reallllly good for?
4.) They brought achievements back but can you still level up while we are waiting for the to introduce the new achievements? I’m at a 7, can I keep working toward my 8 until they put the new ones out?
5.) I read on your site about people getting their account deleted after 90 days. I started my account in 2007 and then stopped playing mid 2008 and have only logged in once between then and when I came back about two weeks ago. Why do you think I wasn’t deleted?
Sorry for so many questions lol I just feel very behind the times!!
1. Yes, just one.
2. Nope, no advantage. Some players got bored of the GP race so they switched it to trying to get to negative GP.
3. WOY is only good for getting those extra lessons in. By doing two lessons everyday, you horse will get double the skill gain for lessons. No, lessons still help without a WOY – you will still recieve about 25 skills extra. (With a WOY, you will get 50, if two are done everyday.) If you do two lessons before and during training, your horse will get extra skills. If you wait to do lessons, you won’t get as many extra skills, but probably a total of 5 or so.
4. Yes you can – I moved on to level 9 the day after they were brought back.
5. It’s after 90 days of inactivity. Yours wasn’t deleted since you logged on quick between those time periods.

The Xanthos links provided on the site are all instant stroke – just click and it’s done for you!
HOP = Horn of Plenty. It gives you random items whether it be BM items or store items
If you need an employee right away, you can hire a temporary employee. It’s not a player on the game. It costs more money for a temporary employee, but you can cancel the contract when you would like.

You can buy one in the auctions or sales (very expensive) or you may get lucky and get one with Howrse’s promotions. (They usually release them around then).
Just to be random, I saw a horse sell for 12 million. :O
Apparently, I went over 90 days without logging in. I understand that accounts are deleted after that period, but when I attempted to start a new account with my old username, it said that the username was already in use. Is there a way for that account to be reactivated or do I need to start over with a new username?
Even if the account was deleted, you can’t use that user name. You will need to make a new account.

Jessica, I have a question and I hope you can answer it.
I posted this question on horse and only 2 people posted to the question not answer it, and I contacted the Howrse team, but they said to post in the forums and check the help and I did, but it was no use.
I have enough karma to create an affix & a breeding farm, and I did. I applied the affix to a horse that I bred and was born on my account. It says that my horse has been renamed, but the affix doesn’t appear after his/her name. I refreshed and still nothing. I waited until the next day and still nothing.
The same thing happens when I try to put a horse that I bred in a breeding farm. Except after I click on move, it the faded loading screen comes on then disappear. When I go to check if the foal is in the breeding farm it isn’t.
Can you please find an answer to my question? Thanks <33
The breed will say Divine and the coat should be Special.
That’s strange…Although, I think a simple solution will be clearing your cache and cookies.

what a notebook??? and how do i get to it?
Just a place to record what you would like. No one can see what you put. Some use it for trade records or certain training programs for their horses. It’s the last tab on the private mail page.
I didn’t find any items in the BM for getting a unicorn and I was wondering how to get one? Can you help?
The only item that will give you a uni is Hestia’s Gift. (I believe that’s what it’s called). I think it will only show up in the black market if you own it..

My guess is that the sale ended or the owner took it out of the auctions.
Give him much more food than usually – try doubling it or even more for one day and see what the progress is.

what does it mean when it is too late to cover your mare??
It’s on the left, under the Care tab.
1. A unicorn and a unicorn must be bred – not a unicorn and a normal horse.
2. They must be the same breed.
3. They must be bred at 2:23 GMT
4. You will only have 1/6 of a chance of getting a unicorn foal.
The easiest way is to buy one in the sales, but they are expensive.
OMG Is it 2.23 for unicorns now? I thought it was 0623 and 1823 GMT!!
Would you please clarify as I’ve tried breeding my unicorns 3 times with no luck. :o(

I’ve been a member of the international howrse since july 2007, my friend has signed up with the UK version. Is there any way we can friend each other without me having to sign up with the uk version.
what does it mean when it says ‘create a breeding farm’? i thought it meant an EC at first but it clearly doesnt. So what is it? and will i lose the karma i hv if i make one (as if i spent it or something) ?

Sorry, they are completely separate. You will need to sign up on the UK version.
Good question – you won’t lose karma by getting a breeding farm. You just have to reach 2 points and you have the ability to make one. A breeding farm is a tab on your horses page that organizes your horses easier. You can make one by going to Directories > Breeding > Manage my Breeding Farms.
where do you find a Archimedes so u can answer the question?

Hey, I have a question. I’m new to howrse, and I came across a Divine today. It was the Croesus. It says that you can get one out of luck if you name one of your horses Junior Croesus. Is this still going on? And if so, can you name a female horse Junior Croesus, since there are only male Croesus’? Thanks for the help.

Yes, it still works, as far as I know of. If you name a female horse Junior Croesus, it will turn into a male Croesus.
hi i made a howrse account a few weeks ago and i keep trying to log on except it only sometimes works and i dont want to make a new account but when i enter my account info in the make an account section it tells me ithe username is available so did it delete my account?
It will only be deleted if you actually deleted it yourself. Make sure you’re going on the correct version of Howrse. Maybe you have an account on the international Howrse, but tried to log on the US version?

i have a male donkey, but he cant offer covering, its just marked in grey as well as the casrate button, and a know hes not a gelding. He`s also past 2 years6months? is there some reason for this?

I am ;). Donkeys can only cover 3 times (or foal 3 times), which is why they are frequently very inexpensive in the sales when those covers are used up.
We warned, a donkey that shows up at auction with only 2 covers used could still have one floating around in a private cover and you won’t find out until after you buy them.

My guess is it means there isn’t enough time left in the day for your mare to be covered. Make sure you stop all activities with your horses by 22:00 so the morale doesn’t drop in the morning.

This is addressed on the objectives pages. Find objectives on the navigation bar and select the page that has your objective number listed. It should be posted on the post, or in the comments.
I am stuck on objective 67. I just had a birth of a foal with a 1022. GP.Shouldn’t the objective have a 50% next to it? Does the foal have to be at precisly 1.20? I am going to end up with an over population if thats the case.

You can’t make them, but private message them and try to negotiate a new deal.

To get to the safe haven, go to ‘my office’, then click on the tab that says ‘The Safe Haven’. Then you can choose to stroke a horse.

I don’t want a layout, I simply want coloured text…
So I type in my text and give it a background and a font colour then click save. The presentation saves only there is NOTHING there, just a beige page as my presentation. So I click edit again but the colour is now gone. I save and it saves fine with no colour!! I don’t even TOUCH the HTML bit at all!

It would most certainly help, but I am unaware of the chances/coats that come from breeding certain coats together. You should get a cremello coat from breeding two horses with the same cremello coat.

Press the “+” button on your horse’s page, right next to the name. Then click “change breeding farm”. You have to add/remove horses right from their page.

Price varies from 4,000e to 11,000e or even more. It depends on the player. Hm…I’m not sure if it would be possible to use it on a pregnant mare, as I have never done that…I would suggest to wait. And yes, a mare waiting to be covered would have to wait longer.

I’m pretty sure it just appears once you have workers (specifically a horse riding instructor) working at your EC. Once the stabling goes up, the bonus the tack gives should go up as well.
View the objective page for tips – you may have to wait till your 10th day on Howrse, if you haven’t reached it yet.
Howrse only allows the “main breeds” on the sign-up page. These were the breeds that were on Howrse before it grew to offer new breeds. You will have to pick one of those and buy a shetland once you can access the sales at 10 days of seniority.

I’m sorry, you probably get this question a lot but its driving me insane! My presentation has a layout and some writing after it, but it says its too long! I read somewhere that you could make 1000 pixels or another, and I did that, since I had the smallest one at first, but it still says its too big! Should I just delete my layout and put everything the old way or what? I was trying to put a list of my stallions with links to them, but it says its too long when I add that :(

To put an affix on a horse go to rename,there should be a scroll down menu with all the affixes you have created,click on one than click rename and there you have it!!!! Sorry you can’t remove/put on an affix that you bought from the sales that is up to the original breeder to remove/put on an affix.Can I ask 1 question,Are you on AU howrse if you are I am Miranda G! ;) I am so glad to be able to answer your questions!!!

They are available in the EC store every once in a while. However, it will be announced when they are in stock. It’s only once or twice a year.
The timing of the day – I believe you need about 2 hours. Your horse must be in bed by 24:00 at the latest, but your horse will lose morale. (22:00 is the latest without losing morale)
Not sure about the colors, but when it says it’s too long, there’s too much coding. You might need to delete some coding so it will save.

No, it is linked to your account; it’s not a physical ticket that appears in your inventory. It gives you access to the Grand Prix, which is a competition for a different skill each day. You get 1,000e for entering, no matter where you place. It takes the whole day and 100% of energy if you don’t have any special items to help with that. (They can be found in the HOP)

I just got my equestrian center and have bought bedding for all the stalls, when i manage it the page says that the bedding is being used. But when i go to the boxes page it says that no bedding is being used, i even tried using a differnt type of bedding but it didn’t work. Why is that?

It’s just a description about you for other players to see. Check out other players’ presentations for ideas. But to validate the objective, you literally have to just type something, anything, so that the page is activated.
How do yo participate in a grand Prix
To compete in a Grand Prix , you need to open a horns of plenty.
Each event is held on a different day.
Monday- Cross-country, Tuesday-Trot racing. Wednesday-Showjumping etc.
You can pick which date you want as well as long as its in the next couple of weeks. If you want cross-country, but its a Wednesday, you need to wait till its Monday.
When its the right day, you can pick your date and look at the different competitions going on. Click on one, and I think there should be some information just like a normal competition. If you are happy, and there is a space, feel free to enter it!

When i go through the directory my account still shows up, and it won’t let me create an account with my login name.When I put in my question, it said it sent a link to change my password in this .de, but I couldn’t figure out what it meant. It can’t be that I didn’t login for a while, cause I logged in previously that day.
I don’t know how you can view the directory without being logged on?
Anyway, if you click on ‘forgot password’ it will send you an email with the link to change your password. Just open the link.
Hey, this question will probably sound really stupid to you guys, but here goes: OK, so sometimes if I want to do some thing one of my horses, a message pops up that says something like “Your horse has to sleep before midnight in able to do this activity!” What does that mean and how do I do it? There is a little clock for your horse displayed on the left column, under all the actions. Each action takes up a certain amount of time. Your horse must be put to bed by 22:00 in order to receive full energy and morale for the next day. You can go past that time to 24:00, but your horse will lose energy and morale, (even health over time) which is not ideal for training.

Once they’re asleep, you will have to wait for the update the following day, or use aging points each time, or put a Morpheus Arms on.

Sarah, the horse’s health must drop to 0% in order to send it to Heaven. A new page will appear, adding a button to send it to Heaven.

The player who owned the horse deleted their account. Once an account is deleted, the horses are too.

Just pick the item you want to buy, and it gives you the option of paying with diamonds or passes….But I think you need 10 to replace the pass option.

1. If it was inactive for over 90 days, it was deleted and you will have to make a new one.
2. Most divines cannot reproduce. Of the ones that can, I don’t know if it’s possible to accept a covering with a normal horse.
how do you switch 2 diamonds with a duplacate card to get a different one? I cant figure it out, or where to go!! plz help soon
After you scratch it out, there is the button to activate the card or to trade it if there is more than one copy and if you have two diamonds to use.

Make sure you continue to keep up with their feeding, putting them to bed on time, and watching the energy level. Also, it is possible for the mare to die if they are over 25 years of age and losing health.

I don’t think there is a limit with divine coverings, although you may want to post in the forum to make sure.

It’s actually Safe Haven (There’s Safe Haven, and a Heaven on Howrse). You need to have ten days of seniority to access it. It will be found under Breeding > My Office > Safe Haven (last tab)

Hey Jessica, I have a question. I’ve just tried moving my newborn Friesian Colt into another one of my breeding farms, but it won’t let me and the options are my other breeding farms. The breeding farm I’m trying to my Colt into is called “The 13Hrs Wolf Pack”. But, like I said, it won’t allow me to move my Colt into it. Why is this?
Check the specifications for the new breeding farm – there may not be enough skill/the horse may be crossbred and can’t enter.

Cleanliness goes up overtime; you don’t have to do anything specific. To raise fertility, let the meadows lay fallow and they will improve.
