FAQs
Howrse has so many different options and goals to complete, that it can get very confusing at time. Here is a space that answer frequently asked questions about game play. If you have a question that isn’t on this list, feel free to post it in the comments section.
Game Play:
1. How come my achievements won’t update? I know I completed it.
Most updates need you to log on the next day. Wait till then to see if that helps.
2. What are Pass Horses?
Pass Horses are just regular horses. When any mortal horse dies of old age, you get a pass. Your horse needs to be at least over 30 years old and you need to send it to Heaven (not the safe haven) in order to receive your pass.
Donkeys will work as well – they don’t have to be just horses. ;)
3. I really need equus and I sold all of my inventory. Do I have to sell one of my horses?
No. Most people would say yes, but if you don’t take care of it that day, it won’t age. When it doesn’t age, it won’t need food. Take care of only one horse and easy ways to earn money is to just stroke a horse in the haven or stroke an Xanthos. I have put up instant-stroke Xanthos links as a separate page.
4. I just started my game. What’s the best way to take care of my horses?

5. How do I send items to friends?
First of all, you need to be registered for 10 days and your friend does also. Then you can go to your friend’s page and under their friend list, there should be a link that says “Give a gift to user name”. Just click on that and there should be a list of all the things you can send. (This works for Black Market items too.) If there is no link there, you have sent your limit for the week. Check your office to see how many you have sent in the past seven days. For example, if you sent an item on the seventh day from today, you will be able to send another item tomorrow.
6. How do I cancel an Auction Sale?
When you click on the auction sale, on the right there should be a button that sales “Cancel Sale”. You have to pay for this to happen and you can’t cancel it if someone is bidding on your horse. It would be best to make sure you really want to sell you horse before you put it up in the auctions.
7. Can an Xanthos be sold?
Yes, if the owner chooses to do so, they can. I have seen three in the auction so far. One sold for 3 million equus and the other sold for 2.2 million equus I think.
8. Can divines/specials breed?
No, they are unable to breed.
9. How do I create an affix or breeding farm?
Affix: Go to “My horses”, click “My Affixes” and then it should take you through the steps to complete it from there.
Breeding Farm: Directory, Breeding, Manage my breeding farm
10. How do I make the presentation size larger?
On your profile page, near the Modify button, it will say Options. Click on that and edit the size that will appear for your presentation. The largest is 1,000 pixels for the length.
11. How do I change an affix?
If you bred the horse, you are able to change the affix. If you did not buy the horse, you won’t be able to change it.
Click on the horse’s name when you’re on the “My Horses” page. At the top, there will be two or three buttons, depending if you have a breeding farm or not. One will be the rename button; click that and select the affix from a drop-down list.
12. How do I make layouts / Where is HTML coding posted?
You will need to understand HTML coding in order to create layouts. I have training offered on this site (you can view it here or browse already made layouts here).
HTML coding is posted in the HTML mode. Go to your page and click on “Modify” then on the right there will be a green button that says, “HTML Mode”.
13. How do I pass ______(Achievement Level)?
On each Achievement Level page, I have tips at the bottom for each challenge. If you still have a question or need further help, feel free to post a comment on that page. ;)
14. What are Xanthos/Divine Horses?
An Xanthos is a divine horse that allows you to stroke it. If you stroke it, you have the chance to win 1,000e and a Horn of Plenty. Other divines include Sleipnirs, Ice Horses (5 different colors), and a Cowbra (just one). The special horses include Harlequins, Fallabellas ( 5 different colors), & Archimedes. Harlequins were used for a special parade feature on Howrse back in April of 2010. Fallabellas were the result of a hatched egg (promotion to get more users on Howrse back in June of 2010). Archimedes were given to players who helped a lot on the Howrse Quiz site. If you answer a question correctly, you will receive an aging point.
15. Are certain training schedules better than others?
Personally, I don’t follow any training schedules, other than foal games. Usually, it’s best to just train in short rides first and then go on to the actual training with the training bars. The important thing that you must have though is to put your horse in the meadow for either half an hour or one hour, depending on how much training you’re doing that day. You also must give your horse a salt stone before doing any training or activity. The salt stone gives the highest energy (around 2.5 to 2.8) when your horse has the most energy. Then train your horse in the best three skills. If Dressage is one of the top three, skip it. Since it requires less energy, you can train your horse towards the end of the day when it has 4 or 5% left to spare. Train your horse until it has the least amount of energy left you can use. (if it’s only 4%, don’t train in Dressage yet; your horse can still gain energy and complete a different skill) When you start to care for it to raise it’s energy, always stroke it first since it will give the most energy when your horse has the least. If you are running low on time, don’t give it water or an apple since they will have no affect on the horse’s morale the next day. Feed your horse and give it a turnip, depending on the amount of time left and how much energy your horse has left. (This is when you can train your horse in dressage if only a small amount of energy is needed.) First, check the amount of energy it is need to train in a category and how much time. If your horse already has enough energy and time, go for it. If it only needs a few more, try giving it a carrot. If not, you can feed it a turnip and train it. *Always make sure your horse will be put to bed with at least 20% energy*
Equestrian Centers:
1. I just started my center. How do I raise the prestige?
To raise it’s prestige, you must have enough meadows that are clean, employees, and competitions help too. By the next day, your prestige should rise to about 20 or 30%. However, my opinion when just starting an EC is to not buy any boxes or hire employees until you can get 100,000 equus for your EC. There is more info on this in the Tips section.
2. How come no one is boarding at my EC?
If you just made your EC, don’t worry about it. Most of the reasons are you don’t have carrots, your rate is too high, you have low prestige, you have no health care, or your meadows are dirty. Give it some time to fix these problems. For more help, visit the Tips page.
3. What should be posted in my EC forum?
It’s always best to post fun topics and things that interest you to attract more players. Some main things are “Rate the avatar above you”, Guestbooks, BM trades, contests, and more.
4. How do I rotate meadows?
First, you need to have one extra meadow that is fallow. If the meadow you have is dropping in fertility or cleanliness, put the meadow fallow. Then, take the extra meadow and put it in pasture. This way the prestige won’t drop for cleanliness or fertility.
5. I created a competition, but it doesn’t show up when I try to enter my horse, I can’t find the competition.
Make sure that the difficulty level is set right below your horse’s skills, that way the prestige will get higher. At the bottom of the competition page, there will be a search box for ECs. Search your EC’s name to find the competition. If it is still not listed, check the competition page to see if it is open for registrations. Also, make sure your horse has enough skills.
6. How do I put bedding in the stalls?
Go to the Boxes page and on the right, there should be a button that allows you to put the bedding it.

I forgot my password for howrse and i have no idea what to do! I clicked on forgot password and put in my email and tried every user name i could think i would use. I know it was Rhia somethingorother. Help!
Sorry, I can’t really help you with that. If you know the user name, all you can do is select ‘Forgot my password’ and an e-mail will be sent to you with a new password. If you haven’t logged on for 90 days, your account will automatically be deleted. If you can’t remember your user name or password, you might have to make another account.
I forgot my password on howrse and I clicked the forogtten password button and put everything on need but my email is not getting the email with my new password. I don’t know what to do! Help please!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I can’t help with any forgotten passwords. Try to think if there is another e-mail account you used while signing up. Otherwise, you’ll have to make a new account. Sorry.
I have a mare, and I have completed her training, I have finished her riding, all her skills/genetics are bolded except for speed, but when I enter her into speed races[galloping races] her speed doesn’t budge, and only her energy lowers, how can I raise her speed and raise her BLUP enough to get it to 100. She is currently at 74.97. [As of January 6, 2010.]

How do you raise the price on your horse in the auctions?
I mean, I’ve seen horses with 17* that goes for only 650e, and then horses with 0* on which the price is over 4,000e. Is there something the vendor does, or is it just.. random?

In the auctions? Since players can bid on the horse, they might bid a high amount if they would really like it, or a small amount if they don’t want to spend to much. The owner of the horse in the auction can’t raise the price, but they can take it out of the auctions. Otherwise, it’s all up to the players.
If one of your howrses reach their genetic potnetiol, does anything special happen?
Nope. Just the pride of good training. :D Many horses, without BM items, can go over potential by a few points. However, my horse, with about 200+ IBS and a C. Timer went over by 220 and is still gaining.
I have a question.
Is it possible to breed with yourself? I have two starred Arabians that I want to breed. Is it possible that can have them breed together?

In the article, Bye-bye Howrse Quiz, Hello Archimedes, it says that players received them as a prize for contributing to the Howrse Quiz. I think the players had to submit 100 questions, or something like that. The only way you could get one is by purchasing one in the Auctions or Private Sales.

How long has it been since you last logged in? If it was for more than 90 days, you account will be deleted. Go through all your e-mail adresses and look to see if you got any messages from Howrse, concerning your log-in. That’s really all I could do to help you..
I didn’t go on howse for a really long time, and it won’t let me logon now. Did my account get deleted?
Do you know how long it has been? Accounts automatically get deleted within 90 days of inactivity. Keep your e-mail as well to see if you got any reminders.

Okay, i have many times my account has been stolen, used, and deleted. Ive used all my paswords i an find up, and i cant anymore find out any that i still could remeber. I was now lucky, since my account was just stolen, but it was sent an abusive message and i lost a karma. Now i have only one karma, and i have soo many messages gotten, but i cant get to my mailbox. I never save my password, but i stll cant avoid account stealing. How could i avoid those? My name is my username.
If you trust your family members won’t go on your account, put a post-it note with a random password near the computer. It could be something like “hfI9akfa9″. No one would be able to guess something like that. Even if you feel someone in your house would go on to your account, they probably won’t guess it’s a password for Howrse. If you don’t want to put it where everyone can see it, put it as a draft in your e-mail. You could always use letters that you will remember, if you link something to it. Remember to use capitals as well.
I can’t find the link you use to make an affix. Can you help me out? Where on the page am I suppose to look?

An Xanthos is a divine horse. They cannot breed and are immortal. You have the option to stroke five each day for the chance to win 1,000e and a HOP.

also it says u cant hav two accounts,but i set one up for my little sister in my name as she is too young to hav an email (shes 6) but was annoyin me to play mine,will i get in trouble for this???
You need to win 20 competitions in first place and he must be 10 years or older.
You should be fine; Howrse usually doesn’t notice those things. If both accounts share the same e-mail, be careful. That’s one of the things they check. Try not to trade anything with your sister or buy any horses. They might find that suspicious as well.

how low does the health have to be for a horse to die?
and I have a horse boarded at an EC which provides health mashes.. how do I buy one? It doesn’t come up as an option when I feed my horse

yeah there are over 600 mashes and I bred the horse and he’s never had a mash of any kind =/

Howrse hasn’t been releasing any lately…They used to have them in magazines when the site just started. Sometimes players find some and post them on their page, so look around. ;) If there are any that are released, it’s usually just one every once in a while.
how do you get xanthos ?
They were only available in the card packs. Now the only way to get them, since the cards are sold out (sold out about a year ago and haven’t been replaced with new ones yet), you can now only get one from the auctions or private sales.
I’ve read on the forums that Harlequins are actually considered a “special” horse and not a “divine”. Do you know the names of all the divines currently available and all the “special” horses currently available? Is Archimedes a divine horse or a special horse? Thanks!

whats the point of riding level 10 if you don’t get anything or whatever ?
I guess just to finish it off…you also receive the ability to preform 3 lessons a day with your horse.
I just looked at your post above about being able to do 3 lessons a day when you pass riding level 10. That doesn’t work for any of my horses. Are you sure that is true? Thanks for the help
I know that I heard this before on the forums and I believe it had it on the riding levels page once I completed it, but I myself can’t do it either…I’ll check back again.
**Update** You had to be at Achievements Level 9 in order to get the third lesson. Since the achievements are ending, players who passed level 10 should automatically get the third lesson.

What do you get when u own an Archimedes?
Do you an aging point everytime some1 answers your Archimedes’ question correctly? I mean you don’t want them for their skill, so there must be some benefit to owning them?

Good question -one main thing that I can think of is popularity. Players want aging points and this is an easy way for them to get them. If they got an aging point for each answer and got five answers a day, they would get a ton of aging points. They don’t really have any benefits.

I have a question, I have BM items I don’t want. Can i sell them to someone else for passes or other BM items? Where? The only forums i find are for questions and stuff?

Just take care of your horse like you normally would. After you put it to bed, you can age it without aging points by pressing the “Age” button.

There is no official forum on Howrse – you can only post on your page or in an EC forum.
Some questions I could’t find the answers to…
1.) Archimedes – How many questions can I answer a day? I tried the link to the right and it would only let me answer one question.
2.) I see notes in the auction that say- “Great for 0 or negative BLUP breeders” Why would you breed before the horse is at 100% BLUP? Is there any advantage to that?
3.) You talk about doing two lessons every day to improve the over all skills but you also reference doing that with WOY. Are the lessons only valuable to improve skills if you have a WOY?? I usually do two lessons per day once all the other training is complete. Should I be doing lessons before training is complete if I don’t have a WOY? And what the heck is a WOY reallllly good for?
4.) They brought achievements back but can you still level up while we are waiting for the to introduce the new achievements? I’m at a 7, can I keep working toward my 8 until they put the new ones out?
5.) I read on your site about people getting their account deleted after 90 days. I started my account in 2007 and then stopped playing mid 2008 and have only logged in once between then and when I came back about two weeks ago. Why do you think I wasn’t deleted?
Sorry for so many questions lol I just feel very behind the times!!
1. Yes, just one.
2. Nope, no advantage. Some players got bored of the GP race so they switched it to trying to get to negative GP.
3. WOY is only good for getting those extra lessons in. By doing two lessons everyday, you horse will get double the skill gain for lessons. No, lessons still help without a WOY – you will still recieve about 25 skills extra. (With a WOY, you will get 50, if two are done everyday.) If you do two lessons before and during training, your horse will get extra skills. If you wait to do lessons, you won’t get as many extra skills, but probably a total of 5 or so.
4. Yes you can – I moved on to level 9 the day after they were brought back.
5. It’s after 90 days of inactivity. Yours wasn’t deleted since you logged on quick between those time periods.

They are rarely available. When they are, Howrse will let you know. The only place to get them is in the EC store.
