Growing Crops

Published by

Hopefully you’re starting off with large, 25 acre meadows to obtain the best harvest. Remember to sell crops, especially wheat, to earn equus before purchasing boxes and tack!

Seasons for growing crops:

  1. Fall: Apples (keep: use for mash. Take 30 days to harvest)
  2. Winter: nothing
  3. Spring: Flax (keep bedding for high prestige, sell flax), Oats (keep), Carrots (keep)
  4. Summer: Wheat (sell all), Alfalfa (keep: produces fodder)

Remember each season lasts one week in real life. Fall starts the first of each month; Winter begins the 8th, Spring begins the 15th, and Summer starts the 22nd.

Fertilizer and Scarecrows:

Produce your own fertilizer using your horses’ droppings. Droppings cannot be bought from the store (under the Trade tab), but manure fertilizer can be purchased if needed. It is slightly more expensive to buy it than to make it. To make manure fertilizer, go to the meadow page and click the button towards the top of the page. Fertilizer will decrease your crops growing time by three days. Scarecrows can be purchased at varying prices from the store (best I’ve seen is under 70,000e) or for one pass at the secret market. These are beneficial in that they increase crop yield by 50%. Over time, I’ve purchased five for my five crop meadows.

Producing Mash:

It is always cheaper to produce a product for your boarders rather than buying it. To produce mash, you need two apples (plant in fall, harvest 30 days later), wheat bran (comes from wheat), and flax seeds that can be purchased from the store. Remember you need 15/box and at least 30/box in order for your EC to show on the registration page.

Wheat: Best Crop to Increase Income

Since straw bedding offers a lower prestige than flax bedding, it’s best to sell straw bedding back to the store. This crop will offer the best profit, selling back for around 10 equus a piece. A 25 acres meadow with fertilizer and scarecrow can provide 37,000e. If you use all five meadows for wheat, and harvest and replant before summer ends, that’s a profit of almost 200,000e!

Thanks a lot for the update on this. The EC changes have come thick & fast, and the new situation is very different than a few months ago, especially now that the money is all in one pot. Keep up the good work!

This has been very helpful, but how do I plant my seeds?

@Madison: Click the modify button on the meadow you want to grow crops and select “Crops”. The crops you can grow depends on the season.

How do I start crops? I’m on the mobile app and am unaware of a lot of the features and would love some tips and tricks. Sofar my only profits are coming from coverings and selling droppings… I would love to plant some seeds I’ve got. Thanks for any help!

How do the seasons work, do they change with real life time or Howrse time?
